Choosing a skirt according to your body type
Ranking among the timeless wardrobe items, the skirt is the symbol of femininity par excellence. Long, short, fringed, slit, patterned, pleated or flounced, it can be worn in any season. As well as enhancing the figure for a sleek and elegant look, it also serves to conceal a few problem areas with style. This is why it is essential to choose your skirt according to your body type.
Identify your morphology
Keeping up with the latest fashion trends is good, but dressing in a more harmonious way is even better. Before choosing the best skirt for your figure, it is important to take the time to determine your body type. While some people are lucky enough to wear everything, others still need to go for pieces of clothing with a defined cut and length. In the world of fashion, body shape is an essential criterion that guides us in our choice of clothing. Derived from the combination of the two Latin words 'morphe' meaning shape and 'logos' referring to study or discourse, the term morphology can therefore be defined as the study of the structure of a living being and its external shape. It focuses mainly on the skeleton and the general "structure" of your body. Contrary to popular belief, the study of shape does not focus on weight gain or dieting. Weight changes do not affect your figure in any way.
Why know your morphology?
Surprising as it may be, knowing your body type in as much detail as possible is particularly advantageous. This gives you a better idea of which assets to highlight and, of course, which unsightly "little" flaws to hide in a stylish and intelligent way. As you will no doubt have realised, knowing your body type will help you to avoid stylistic mistakes. You will be able to make the best clothing combinations, so as to draw attention to a well-defined part of your body, and not focus on a much less advantageous area. When buying clothes, you can easily choose pieces that fit your body structure. Clothes that don't "fit" and sit in a wardrobe are now a thing of the past.
How to know your morphology?
To find out your body shape, you should stand in front of a mirror. The idea is to identify the shape and structure of the different parts of your body. To get a more detailed view, it would be better to dress only in underwear, or failing that, in tight-fitting clothes, very close to the body. Even if you are not particularly comfortable with the image you project onto the mirror,an analysis of your actual body structure will help you to dress more harmoniously. The principle is that you should be as honest as possible with yourself. This will not only do you good, it will also give you a much more objective assessment. Then compare the width of your shoulders with the width of your waist and hips. If you still want to make a more precise analysis, don't hesitate to take your measurements directly. Measure your shoulder circumference from the base of your neck to the shoulder joint. For the chest measurement, measure the circumference of your bust, passing under the armpits and at the level of the point of the breasts. The waist circumference is measured at the lowest point. The hip circumference refers to the widest part of the pelvis, especially at the level of your crotch.
Different types of morphology
The comparison of the different measurements previously taken indicates your morphology. Hips that are much wider than the shoulders, with a waist that is not very pronounced and in line with the hips, mean that you have an A-shaped, pear-shaped or pyramid-shaped body. In the opposite case, i.e. with a narrow pelvis and developed shoulders, it is more of a V or diamond shape. Women with shoulders that are in line with the hips and waist are H-shaped. On the other hand, if your shoulders are the same width as your hips, but you have a pronounced waist, your figure is X-shaped. For those who have a generous and luscious shape, this is more of an 8 shape. The 0 shape is simply characterised by a round waist and beautiful curves, narrow shoulders, a rather generous chest, a very small waist, fairly wide hips and a rounded buttock.

Which skirt for an A shape?
As mentioned above, an A or pyramid shape is characterised by narrow shoulders and wide hips. Therefore, straight skirts, trapeze shapes and skater styles are preferable. The aim is simply to avoid making your hips wider. High-waisted, flowing skirts in dark colours are also recommended. Of course, an A shape can wear a long skirt or a midi skirt that comes just above the knee and can be a little fancy with an asymmetric cut. However, avoid bright colours that draw attention to the lower part of your body, heavy and thick materials such as velvet and tweed, horizontal stripes and imposing patterns, the mini-skirt, low-waisted models, the pleated skirt, the bubble skirt and the version with pockets on the sides.
Which skirt for a V-shaped body?
In contrast to the A shape, the V shape is characterised by particularly large shoulders in relation to the hips. To balance the figure, the ideal skirt will give more volume to the lower part of your body, i.e. your hips and buttocks. So go for low-waisted skirts with fringes, ruffles, satin pieces or lace. Also indulge yourself with colours and patterns. Pencil skirts, skater skirts, trapeze skirts, puffy skirts, flared skirts, pleated skirts, draped skirts, skirts with pockets on the sides, etc. are all good choices. However, avoid tight-fitting models and straight miniskirts, which will accentuate the gap between your upper and lower body even more.
Which skirt for an x-shaped body?
On an X-shaped body, the figure is quite slim, with a particularly narrow waist. As you may have read everywhere, this is the easiest figure to dress. Almost every piece of clothing, including various types of skirts, fits you perfectly. Whether it's a long skirt, a mini-skirt, a pencil skirt, a straight X-shaped skirt, a trapeze shape, a tube skirt, a piece of thick or flowing material, a coloured or rather neutral model, everything is allowed with the X-shaped figure. However, avoid a low-waisted skirt which will erase the silhouette as well as a model with too many pleats on the sides which tend to widen the hips.
Skirt for O-shape
For an O-shaped body, generous curves and shapes are real assets that you should not hesitate to highlight. In addition to camouflaging certain defects, your O-shaped skirt will enhance your advantageous shapes. Go for a skirt in a light, flowing fabric, a pencil skirt, a trapeze skirt, a flared model, a cargo skirt, a straight denim version, a skirt that reaches just above the knee, a high-waisted skirt or a skirt with delicate vertical stripes. Pleated, patterned, brightly coloured, thick material such as velvet or tweed and mini skirts are not suitable for women with an O-shaped body.
